Custom Size and Fitting
Custom Size & Fitting
A better fit starts with a better pattern.
At Gmman Jackets, custom sizing is engineered around your product—not forced into a standard size chart. We develop measurements, blocks, patterns, grading and fitting details to create jackets that look right, move right and reproduce consistently in production.
Fit engineering
Your size system should be built around your jacket.
A jacket is not simply scaled up or down. Shoulder width, chest, sleeve length, armhole depth, body length, cuff position and ease all change how a garment performs on different bodies. We treat those relationships as part of the product design.
-
Custom points of measure
Build a measurement system around your exact jacket silhouette, target customer and intended fit.
-
Pattern development
Translate your measurements and design intent into production-ready jacket pattern geometry.
-
Fit validation
Review the physical sample, identify fit issues and refine the pattern before bulk production.
-
Size grading
Create a coherent size range while protecting the proportions and character of the original approved fit.
Our fitting workflow
From your measurements to a repeatable production fit.
We use a practical development sequence so fit decisions are made before they become expensive bulk-production problems.
Measurement brief
We establish the key POMs, size range, fit intention, ease and construction requirements for the jacket.
Pattern & block
The base block is developed around the intended silhouette, seam architecture and construction method.
Sample fitting
The sample is assessed for balance, proportion, movement, sleeve position and overall visual fit.
Grade & lock
After approval, the size range is graded and the final specifications are locked for consistent production.

Custom size systems
Standard sizes are a starting point—not a limitation.
Whether your collection uses XS–XXL, extended sizes, custom team sizing or a completely proprietary size chart, we can structure the specification around the fit you want to achieve.
Regular Fit
Balanced ease through chest and body for an everyday jacket silhouette.
Slim / Tailored
Closer body profile with controlled ease and sharper proportions.
Relaxed / Oversized
More volume through body and sleeves while retaining intentional shape.
Extended Sizing
Size expansion designed around proportion—not simply adding width everywhere.
Styles & silhouettes
The same fitting discipline works across different jacket identities.
Your style determines where volume, balance and movement need to be controlled. We adapt the pattern logic to the silhouette rather than using one generic block.
Varsity Jackets
Body, sleeve, rib and shoulder proportions engineered for a clean collegiate silhouette.
Bomber Jackets
Controlled body volume, sleeve balance and hem proportions for a structured bomber profile.
Leather Jackets
Precise shoulder, armhole and sleeve relationships to support heavier materials and clean movement.
Puffer Jackets
Pattern allowances and panel proportions considered around insulation, loft and finished volume.
Softshell Jackets
Mobility-focused fit with sleeve articulation and practical ease for active use.
Your Own Silhouette
Bring your reference, sketch or existing garment and we can develop the fit around your concept.
Pattern development & grading
Fit is translated into geometry before it reaches the cutting table.
A well-fitting jacket needs more than a measurement chart. Pattern pieces must balance, seams must meet correctly, grainlines and notches must be controlled, and the finished sample must reflect the intended proportions.
- Base block creation — establish the foundation of your fit.
- Seam & panel balance — keep construction aligned across pieces.
- Size grading — build a consistent size range from the approved base.
- Fit corrections — feed sample observations back into the pattern.
Custom fitting FAQ
Questions about sizing and patterns?
Here are the most common questions brands ask before starting a custom jacket fitting project.
Yes. We can use your existing specifications as the starting point and review them against the intended silhouette, construction and fit. We can also develop a new size system when required.
Yes. A reference garment, sample, sketch or technical information can help establish the intended style and proportions. The final approach depends on the condition and information available from the reference.
Yes. Fit intent is part of the development brief. We can structure the pattern around regular, slim, relaxed, oversized and other proprietary silhouettes.
Grading is based on the approved base size and the required measurement increments. We consider width and length relationships so the jacket retains its intended character across the size range.
Yes. Sample review is an important part of fit development. Corrections can be incorporated into the pattern before the specifications are finalized for production.
